The Big Half is a community festival of running in London - centred around the half marathon distance – which was created in 2018 with an objective to make it an event that truly represents the diversity of London and, in particular, the four London boroughs the race runs through: Tower Hamlets, Southwark, Lewisham and Greenwich.
Organisers London Marathon Events (LME) recognise many of London’s running events do not truly reflect the communities they pass through and The Big Half was created to change this, by bringing together Londoners of all ages and abilities to take part in a festival of running.

It started in the eastern part of the German capital in 1981 and was called Peace Run.
