Information about the Tokyo Marathon 2026 for anyone involved.
The Art Project is a Tokyo Marathon Foundation project that explores the possibilities of art and sports.
By involving diverse people, things, and events, we collaborate with specialists in various fields such as art, creation, and technology to dynamically co-create while gazing at a new era.
At this year’s event, following on from the previous edition, we will continue initiatives such as creating cheering goods made from scrap materials and recycled resources, as well as art productions by Tokyo University of the Arts student runners.
In addition, as a new initiative aimed at “coloring the streets of Tokyo in Tokyo Marathon colors,” we will introduce projects including the creation of large-scale artworks for the Art Turning Point Tower (turnaround point) and the sale of items for spectators.
By collaborating with specialists from a wide range of fields—including art, creation, and technology—we will dynamically co-create while looking ahead to a new era. Please keep an eye on these exciting developments!
Under the title of the project to color the streets of Tokyo with Tokyo Marathon colors, we will develop based on the Tokyo Marathon's main colors and main visual.
We aim to redefine running not merely as a competition, but as an expression where sports, art, and urban culture intersect, and to transmit cultural value that connects to expressiveness, circularity, and even sustainability.

On Sunday, January 18, a giant art piece was created at the Tokyo Toy Museum (an official charity partner of the Tokyo Marathon 2026).The artwork will be displayed at three turnaround points along the Tokyo Marathon 2026 course: Ueno Hirokoji, Monzen-Nakacho, and Tamachi.Children and adults alike came together to paint this colorful artwork, which will cheer on runners along the course on race day. After the marathon, the artwork will be exhibited at the Tokyo Toy Museum.
Program Instructor: Shuto Sakai (Product Designer / Creative Director)

With a time limit of just 30 minutes, the Tokyo University of Arts students will draw croquis of the runners as they set off from in front of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, and their work will be part of an exhibit. The art students will strive to capture the physical and mental dynamism of the early moments as the runners begin their 42.195km race using only their concentration and imagination.
We are excited to see how the atmosphere of the race and the runners can be expressed through art, and what new artworks will emerge from drawing with a sports-like sensibility within the limited time frame.
Sunday, March 1 (Afternoon): Tokyo International Forum
Tuesday, March 3 to Monday, March 9: Metro Ginza Gallery
Furthermore, the works by students who participated in the Drawing Runner Exhibition of the Tokyo Marathon 2025 will be reborn as prints on tote bags made from upcycled materials!

Following Tokyo Marathon 2025, students from Tokyo University of the Arts will take on the 42.195km challenge again in 2026! As runners go through the streets of the Tokyo metropolis, the students will attempt to express through art the experiences and memories of those on this extraordinary journey of running the Tokyo Marathon, as well as their pain and inner conflict in completing a full marathon.
In addition, works by students who challenged the Tokyo Marathon 2025 will be exhibited inside the Tokyo Marathon EXPO 2026 venue.
In this hands-on program for race-day cheering, participants will create sustainable, original cheering items using materials generated through the Tokyo Marathon—such as used course tape and recycled pellets made from collected clothing.
Items that are usually thrown away can become something special when viewed from a different perspective. This program offers a fun, parent-and-child-friendly experience while also providing an opportunity to learn about the environment and sustainability.
