This year again but as 2020 version, the Tokyo Marathon event flags used to decorate the streets along the course are recreated into a tote bag and, new this year, a shoulder bag!
In our effort to deliver a sustainable event, the flags are upcycled into new items, reducing waste and carbon-footprint.
Starting from 10 a.m. (JST) on Monday, August 3, the limited number of bags will be available for purchase from the TOKYO MARATHON FOUNDATION ONLINE STORE*.
These bags are handmade by people with disabilities supported by "NPO Support of Employment, Living and Participation (SELP)" and "Leda Craft", organizations that support independent living of individuals with disabilities.
We have received positive comments from the workers involved in the upcycling, such as, "It was wonderful to be part of sustainable project", and "It was my first time to make shoulder bags, but it turned out very cute, and it will delight me more if it becomes someone's favorite".
The portion of the sale of the bags will be donated to the Tokyo Goodwill Bank (Tokyo Council of Social Welfare). In 2019, through the sale of upcycled Tokyo Marathon 2019 flag bags, we were able to donate 265,875 yen to the Tokyo Goodwill Bank (Tokyo Council of Social Welfare).
The upcycled bags featuring the colorful Tokyo Marathon logo are sturdy, and are ideal as gym bags, shopping bags, or just in your everyday routine! Be part of Tokyo Marathon in your everyday life, while making positive social change!
