PROJECT 01
The Tokyo Marathon 2027 will mark its 20th edition.
To celebrate this milestone, we have launched the “Tokyo Marathon 20th Anniversary Special Website.”
Special anniversary projects will be unveiled in the coming months — stay tuned!
PROJECT 02
The Blue Impulse demonstration flight will be conducted in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the Tokyo Marathon, to be held on Sunday, March 7, 2027.
Details regarding the flight time and route will be announced once they are finalized.
PROJECT 03
Tokyo Marathon 2027 has increased the field size from 39,000 to 40,000 runners to allow even more people to participate.
PROJECT 04
The prize money awarded to the men's and women's Marathon Elite Athlete champions has been increased. The world's top athletes will be competing in a thrilling race as they vie for the $170,000 champion's prize, the largest ever in the Abbott World Marathon Majors (AWMM).
PROJECT 05
To celebrate the 20th edition of the Tokyo Marathon, legendary figures from the world of marathon running will travel from across Japan and around the globe to take part in this historic milestone event and help make the celebration unforgettable.
PROJECT 06
A new para-athlete division has been created to heighten the appeal of marathon elite racing by people with disabilities. In conjunction with this, new entry categories have been created for people with disabilities, further promoting their participation in sports. Due to these changes, the 10.7km run has been superseded by the marathon.
PROJECT 07
Runners who finish the race will be presented 20th Anniversary Premium Edition Finisher Medals. The designs and sizes will be announced as soon as they are decided.
PROJECT 08
One of the official event spaces to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the marathon will be Tokyo Marathon Square. This space, located in the Shinjuku Sumitomo Building Sankaku Hiroba, near the marathon's start line, will provide runners and fans opportunities to get together and interact. It will hold open press conferences, a post-run party, symposia, and various other events. Details will be announced as soon as they are available.
Name: Tokyo Marathon Square
Dates: Friday, March 5, to Sunday, March 7, 2027
Location: Shinjuku Sumitomo Building Sankaku Hiroba
PROJECT 09
Following the trial run at Tokyo Marathon 2026, the marathon will be recruiting people who live overseas to serve as global volunteers.
Volunteers will come from around the world, uniting as one to provide support to runners across cultural and language lines.
PROJECT 10
The marathon will provide support for runners' day-to-day conditioning and health management through various means, such as a health management app. It will also provide pace-setters for a wide range of target times, helping runners finish the race.
PROJECT 11
We plan to implement the Green Mileage Program through the marathon and implement initiatives based on a carbon offset road-map (to be formulated in the future). The marathon will also be operating RUN CYCLE SQUARE, a community space for sports and sustainability.
